Maternity photoshoots are always a special experience for me as a photographer. It’s wonderful to be able to capture such a special time in a couple’s life as they prepare to welcome a new addition to their family. The shoot that I recently did for Atin and Sara was no exception. What struck me about this couple was their warmth and enthusiasm. Although Atin was a bit camera shy initially, he quickly warmed up and his playful personality shone through. Sara was just a natural in front of the camera and it was easy to see why she had requested a maternity shoot.
One of the challenges that we faced during the shoot was the overcast day. This meant that we could not get the golden hour portraits that we had planned for. However, the cloud cover turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it acted as a nice diffuser for the photo session. We made the most of the diffused natural lighting and it really added a soft and ethereal quality to the images.
Communication is key in any photoshoot and for the initial part of the session, it was important to know Atin and Sara and make them feel comfortable. Once they were warmed up, we started off with some sitting poses, using a blanket to keep them comfortable in the outdoor setting. As we moved to a different location in the woods, we were able to take advantage of the beautiful scenery. However, an accidental encounter with a bee hive reminded us to stay vigilant during outdoor shoots.
Throughout the session, we captured a lot of candid photos, which really showcased the couple’s natural chemistry and warmth. We ended the shoot with some more formal shots using a bouquet of yellow roses to complement Sara’s dress and the surrounding purple flowers. The complimentary color palette created some really stunning results.
Overall, it was a wonderful shoot and I am thrilled with the results. The gear that I used included my Sony A7 iii, Sony 85mm F1.4 GM lens, and Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 lens. I did not use any external lights during the shoot as the natural lighting was perfect. The resulting images are a beautiful testament to this special time in Atin and Sara’s lives and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
By now, you would have known that I’m a natural light portrait and family photographer located in the hills shire. I look forward to sharing more blogs about my upcoming shoots.
